Healthy Fats Are Part of a Healthy Lifestyle

By Kathryn Barry

Healthy Fats include Saturated, Polyunsaturated and Monounsaturated Fats. Your body depends on a supply of fat in order to work and function properly.

The over consumption of Omega-6 polyunsaturated fats has lead Americans into a serious and life threatening Omega-3 fatty acid deficiency.

Increasing your Omega-3's and decreasing your Omega-6's until you reach a ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 in the 2 to 1 or 1 to 1 range will help to prevent such health problems like blood clots, weight gain, learning disabilities, heart problems, cancer, hyperactivity, and liver damage. Most people are likely to be in the 20 to 1 or 50 to 1 ratio in favor of Omega-6.

Another Serious Issue is Saturated Fats

We are being conditioned to stir clear away from these fats, yet your body depends on these Healthy Fats in order to flourish.

Your lungs need saturated fats in order to supply oxygen to the rest of your body

Omega 3's need saturated fats to be used properly in your body.

Your kidneys function better with a saturated fat called myristic acid.

Hormones affect thousands of your bodily functions and require a certain amount of saturated fat to do their jobs.

An adequate supply of saturated fats affect the amount of inflammation in your body.

Your cells communicate better when your diet has this fat and your cell membranes should be made of about 50% saturated fat.

Calcium requires a certain percentage of saturated fat in order to be incorporated into your bones.

Saturated fats are important to your brain, since your brain is made primarily from fat.

Coconuts are a great source of saturated fats. Their saturated fat content is at about 92% and coconuts have a special type of fatty acid which is medium chained in length.

The special properties of coconut's fat contribute greatly to producing energy for your body and will not be stored as fat. Despite a high saturated fat content coconuts do not have any cholesterol.

Coconut's Healthiest Fatty Acid is Lauric Acid

Coconuts contain a very special fatty acid that is also found in mother's milk. This fatty acid is called lauric acid and it contains very special health benefits. There is quite an abundance of this special fatty acid found in coconuts.

Because Lauric Acid gets turned into Monolaurin which has antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties, this helps new born babies to withstand infections and develop a strong immune system.

Lauric acid is a great aid to your metabolism because it helps out your thyroid gland. Your ability to secrete insulin also is affected by the presence of lauric acid.

Health issues such as Diabetes, Kidney Problems, Cancer, Dry Skin, Osteoporosis, Heart Disease, and Stress are helped by the consumption of coconuts.

My Favorite is Raw Coconut Cream! You can make your own if you have a Green Star Juicer and some good coconuts.

Your health depends on a good supply of Healthy Fats. Start making better choices when it comes to the fats you include in your diet and your body will thank you.
