The Best Exercise For A Flat Belly, 3 Things You Must Do To Tighten Your Stomach

By Ryan M Hall

If you are trying to get a flat stomach, doing tons of ab exercises for a flat belly won't get you a 6 pack as quickly as you might think. In fact, most ab exercises do very little to flatten your tummy because they work just like any other exercises that builds muscle, they stress the muscle so that it rebuilds stronger. Ab exercises give you stronger abs, not a flat sexy stomach. But if you want a six pack what are the best exercises?

In order to achieve that flat belly, you have to get your diet plan going. If you want to shrink your stomach quick, nothing can beat good nutrition. Once you are on a good diet, get with a good muscle building exercise routine. Building muscle will burn more fat and get your stomach going down in no time, much faster than tons of crunches or late night TV gizmos will.

Once you have a good exercise plan, you will want to focus on some exercises that will build your ab muscles so that your 6 pack can show as you reduce your body fat.

Here are some of my favorite ab exercises:

1. Bar or Dumbbell Squats

Hold the dumbbells or bar at your shoulders and just perform a normal squat. Nothing fancy here because it works your abs just as it is. You see, your abs have to stay flexed and work extra hard to stabilize the weights you are holding. This keeps them working through the entire movement.

2. Mountain Climbers

These are great for lower abs, and can be done virtually any where. Remember though, they have very little effect if performed with the wrong cadence. To do it right, get on your hands and toes as if you are going to do push ups, then lift one knee to your chest and put it back down, repeat with the other leg until you've don a full set. This works the butt, back, abs, obliques and hip flexors.

3. Full Body Crunches

This is just like a standard crunch except you use your whole body instead of just your upper body. Get into the crunch position, and when you crunch up, pull your knees to your chest, then when you lower your shoulders back down, extend your feet out in front of you. Repeat this without allowing your feet to touch the ground.

Cable crunches and weighted crunches will really get your abs on fire if you want to go to an advanced workout.

Ab exercises will strengthen and build your ab muscles, but they do very little to flatten your midsection. If you want a flat belly, you have to focus on total body fat and good nutrition. This is the only way to get a flat stomach and let the 6 pack abs you build show through.
