The Benefits of Walking

I live in Manhattan, a busy, bustling city. Something very interesting that I've noticed is the fact that our city's obesity rate is very much lower than that of the rest of the country.

I couldn't really figure out why this would be the case. Not everyone here happens to be a fitness and nutrition freak, yet people generally keep their weight down. Something didn't add and there had to be more to it.

Why, then do people weigh less here? I believe that the answer has something to do with the fact that the average Manhattan resident does a lot more walking than the average American citizen on a regular basis.

Even if you're simply walking to a train, you'll usually have to walk at least a quarter of a mile in order to get to the station, and probably the same once you're leaving the station. That's a half mile right there, and there are many advantages to walking as a result.

While those living in towns would very obviously drive from one destination to another, you might want to consider the idea of walking. It saves money on gas costs, and it benefits your body.

They say that every mile walked will burn somewhere between 50 and 60 calories. That's the equivalent of 7 grams of fat, which really adds up over time. Walk this distance both ways, and you'll definitely begin to see some benefits over time.

That's over nearly the equivalent of running a mile at a pretty aggressive pace. You'd have to think that someone who ran a mile per day would be in pretty good physical condition, wouldn't you?

While it may be boring at first, there are ways to easily keep busy in the process. Take advantage of the extra time by making a phone call as you walk. Bring some headphones with you and listen to music.

Do you always seem to be on a diet? Have you found that your jeans are getting a bit tight? I have some great tip for natural weight loss.

Most people say all you need to do is cut out the junk and fast food. Many of you may have figured out by now that that doesn't work to well. The reason why is that when you deny yourself these foods it just makes you want them more. The trick is to eat you favorite food; just eat less of them. This means you can still go to your favorite burger joint but instead of the burger and fries combo make do with just the burger.

You may have heard that three meals a day is best. I tend to think that several small meals each day is the beast way to go. This keeps you from eating junk in between meals and gives you more energy. It also boosts your metabolism. You also don't feel stuffed from eating enough to last until your next meal and you don't go hungry either.

Exercise is probably the best way to help accomplish weight loss. Not only does it get your heart pumping and boost metabolism but it tons muscles and gives you more energy. You really don't need special equipment or a gym membership and you don't have to spend hours a day either. If you want equipment then the one piece I would recommend is a stair climber. This really helps with those legs and thighs and gets your heart pumping.

I did my exercises on my bed. These were simple leg lifts and sit-ups. Also front leg lifts are super for your lower abs. Also being on the bed is better for your back and just more comfortable. Exercise is great for your metabolism and helps tone your muscles. This can really take the inches off quick but you have to exercise some every day. Walking is also very good.

Setting realistic goals is very important. You shouldn't expect to see results over night. It may takes weeks or months to really see a difference but you will. Having someone to help keep you motivated is a good idea as well. Or maybe even just a pair of jeans you want to fin into to remind you of why you should keep going. Really it is all a matter or raising your metabolism. You can walk or jog or join a gym. The point is to get active and be healthier.
