While the Chinese, Japanese and many other Asian cultures have been making use of green tea for centuries it is only recently that the use of green tea has started flourishing in the west.

Green tea is derived from the leaves of a native Asian shrub known as the Camellia Sinesis. The leaves of this shrub are dried up for the purpose of preparing green tea.

The use of the drink for medicinal applications and general health benefits has been common in many Asian cultures for centuries. China alone has a history of over four thousand years with the use of green tea.

With the advancement in medical science the specialists were able to test the substance for its alleged qualities. Much to their amazement that Chinese had been right all along as science discovered many brilliant health benefits of green tea.

Green tea gets is loaded with a number of unique substances that can be a source of great health benefits for the body. The shrub is renowned for being antioxidant rich in particular.

Epigallocatechin Gallate, known as EGCG for short is one of the antioxidants that green tea is heavily abundant in.

The occurance of a balanced quantity of antioxidants is essential for the smooth functioning of the body. Plus they can help prevent serious cellular damage which leads to cancer.

When compared to Vitamin C the particular antioxidant found in green tea is measured to be twenty five times potent and more effective. The same is the case when EGCG is compared with Vitamin E and its effectiveness with regards to protecting cells and the DNA structure.

There are a host of diseases that can be prevented and even remedied by making use of green tea. The drink can help prevent some of the most dangerous diseases that can afflict the human body such as cancer and HIV. On its own green tea also helps to improve the immune system in general.

Problems like rheumatoid arthritis, heart diseases and Alzheimers disease which usually crop up with age can also be countered by making use of green tea. Green tea has even been used to prevent the development of the symptoms that lead to Parkinsons disease and multiple sclerosis.

In recent years green tea has been promoted as a weight loss agent. This is so because the consumption of green tea can boost the metabolic processes in the body which help to expound fat. At the same time it loads the body up on various other health benefits and its inclusion in your every day diet is highly recommended.
